Home ยป Privacy Policy

Effective from 4 May 2023. Last updated 12 September 2026.

This policy explains what personal information RetroFlix collects, why, and what we do with it.

What we collect

The only personal information we ask for is what you give us yourself:

  • Reviews and comments. When you post a review or a reply, we store the text, your star rating, the name and email address you enter, and your IP address and browser details, which help us catch spam. Your name and review are shown publicly; your email address is not.
  • Contact form. When you write to us, we receive your name, email address and message, and we use them only to reply.
  • Favorites. Titles you favorite are stored in a cookie in your own browser. We do not keep a copy, and clearing your cookies clears the list.

Like almost every website, we also receive technical information automatically when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you open and when. We use it to keep the site running, to keep it secure, and to understand in aggregate how it is used.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser stores so a site can remember things between visits. Ours remember your favorites, your name for the review form if you ask us to, and help us measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but favorites will not be remembered.

Services we rely on

A few outside services process some of this information on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy.

  • Google Analytics measures visits and page views. It sets its own cookies and receives your IP address and browser details.
  • Cloudflare sits in front of our servers to keep the site fast and to block attacks. Every request passes through it, and its Turnstile check protects the contact form from bots.
  • Video hosts such as the Internet Archive, Wikimedia Commons and YouTube store the films you watch here. When a video plays, your browser loads it from that host directly, so the host sees the request, and it may set its own cookies.
  • Gravatar may be asked whether an avatar exists for the email address on a review, using an anonymized version of the address.

Sharing

We do not sell, trade or pass on information that identifies you. We share it only with the services above, as needed to run the site, or where the law requires us to.

Links to other sites

We link to other websites, including the services that host the films (see Services we rely on) and IMDb. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or for how they handle your data.

How long we keep it

Reviews stay on the site with the title they belong to. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to reply and follow up. Analytics data is kept in the aggregated form Google Analytics provides.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, including any review you have posted. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority. To make a request, contact us.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. No website can promise perfect security, but we keep what we collect to a minimum, which is the best protection there is.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be announced on the site.
